Summer’s here at last…

At least it certainly feels that way at Beaucette Marina, where the sun has been shining and the birds singing over the last few weeks as we put the finishing touches to welcoming old and new friends for the 2017 season.

In fact, Marina Manager Ricky Stephens and his team have been flat out over the winter making sure everything’s shipshape for you – plus we’ve got some exciting new developments to tell you about in this our latest newsletter.

First up, though, while our fantastic BBQ at the end of last summer may have marked the end of the season, there was definitely no time for winding down at Guernsey’s most beautiful marina.

We’ve taken stock of your needs and wants and there’s been a very busy schedule of maintenance and improvements around the site, including new piling and creating new areas of hardstanding – as well as lifting dozens of boats to prepare for the new season.

In short, there’s been plenty to keep Ricky, Graham and Glen the gardener out of mischief and we’re also celebrating the irrepressible Sunil’s first year with us.

‘He’s much more use now he’s learnt one end of a boat from the other,’ said Ricky, with his trademark grin, as Sunil fixed him with a *stern* look.

Gold Anchor Award

One of the things that has kept us hard at it is entering for the first time in The Yacht Harbour Association’s Gold Anchor award for quality-assured berthing.

As you probably know, this scheme has been inspecting marinas throughout the world for over 25 years and any rated marina will have been subject to a series of rigorous tests, including a marina audit, ‘mystery shopper’-style checks on customer services and the first impressions it offers, and a berth holders’ questionnaire.

Challenging, to say the least, but we’re all looking forward to the experience. Aren’t we, Ricky?

BBQ News

And that’s why it seems scarcely any time at all since our best ever and fantastic end-of-season grand BBQ last August.

It was so good we know many of you are desperately hoping it will be repeated this year. And the good news is – it will! Bigger and better and with the famous Beaucette Marina brand of hospitality, fun, laughter and entertainment.

So please keep August 12 2017 clear in your diary for our very special event and there’ll be more updates to come about it in future newsletters.

Stop Press

We have some truly amazing plans in the pipeline to massively improve the boat storage facilities here, which we’re currently discussing with Guernsey’s planning authorities.

We think you’ll be blown away with what will be a first for the island and as soon as we’ve got the green light, we’ll give you chapter and verse. Do watch this space.

Foodie facts

We want your stay here the best it can be and James – without question one of Guernsey’s best chefs – and Val at our outstanding Marina Restaurant have some tempting new dishes for 2017, plus a special lite-bite menu available until 9pm. Perfect for that late arrival!

They’re also doing a terrific Marina Cream Tea (Ricky can’t get enough of them), with or without Prosecco or Pimm’s, for that fabulously indulgent afternoon treat.

All the details can be found here: www.beaucetterestaurant.com

For your convenience…

One of the things we’re really pleased about is that our visitors now have a shop and convenience store just a 10 minute stroll away through Beaucette’s tranquil lanes.

Fully signposted and very welcoming, proprietor Andre Whiteway is also offering a daily delivery service, including bread, milk, eggs and bacon and other essentials.

There’s no additional charge for this – although you do need to order in advance – and we’re especially pleased he’s offering special BBQ packs from Cobo Butchers, one of our favourite family-run Guernsey firms, just down the road from Beaucette.

People watching

You’ll be pleased to hear that marina owner Steve’s Trader motor yacht Lola Ming is looking gorgeous after her winter overhaul and antifouling – but not as pleased as we are that he’s happy with what we’ve done for him!

Glad you like it boss…

Talking of pleased, a sure sign that summer’s here was Piers finally poking his head outdoors into the early warmth while another was berth-holders Diane and Tania out on their bikes.

Mind, they have good reason to be racing around – we’re proud and delighted to be able to tell you that they’ve been selected for the cycling events in the XVII NatWest Island Games, which this year will be held in Gotland, Sweden’s largest island.

The Games are a big event in Guernsey’s sporting calendar and it’s a tremendous honour for local athletes to be chosen to compete, so naturally we’ll keep you up to date with how they get on over the next couple of months.

Our new campervan park is going great guns too and Shep and Maya were seen there the other day with their new camper and motorbike.

Ricky reports as well that he’s been over to Herm and Sark (lucky chap) and, like Beaucette, preparations are well in hand for a brilliant summer season.

The Mermaid Tavern [www.herm.com] in Herm’s looking particularly welcoming and our friends at Stocks Hotel [www.stockshotel.com] are offering what they call the ultimate in relaxed charm and barefoot elegance.

Not surprisingly, they’re expecting 2017 to be an outstanding season.

We are too – which is why we look forward to sharing it with you all very soon.
