Beaucette Marina’s fuel pontoon is on the hammerhead of pontoon B.

Our diesel is ultra low sulphur, non-bio, dyed red to distinguish it as marine duty-free diesel.

Storage is in two 10,000ltr tanks on land. To ensure the diesel remains completely pure, the tanks are drained and scoured once a year. Finally, before it is pumped into your craft, large filters and water strainers trap any residuals.

UK Yachts – duty and VAT implications

Guernsey is not part of the UK nor part of the EU. If a UK vessel buys diesel in Guernsey, there are no implications whatsoever on returning to the UK. However, it is always advisable to keep the receipt as proof of where it was bought.

If a UK yacht subsequently travels to Europe with red diesel bought from Guernsey, there are still no implications since the Instanbul Convention of 1990 states the fuel is VAT and duty neutral.

Having said this, you need to take care about visiting Belgium, where their authorities do not always recognise the Instanbul Convention even though they are a signatory state.

The RYA has this to say on the subject of diesel and Belgium.

However, the RYA undated their comments on May 15, 2015, by saying, ‘It is unlawful in Belgium to use red diesel for propelling a private pleasure craft and in 2010 and 2011, boating in Belgian waters with marked ‘red’ diesel in your fuel tanks put you at risk of receiving a significant fine.’

The moral of the story is to check before going, and keeping the receipt and a log of where you have travelled is important.

Gas bottles are available, all of which have UK fittings.
